Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, has urged members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take drastic measures against Israel, including imposing an oil embargo and other sanctions. He also called for the expulsion of all Israeli ambassadors representing their country in OIC member states.

The plea for these actions was made during an urgent OIC meeting held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which aimed to address the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine. This meeting was convened following a tragic incident at a Gaza hospital, where a massive explosion claimed the lives of numerous Palestinians.

Iran’s foreign ministry released a statement on behalf of Amirabdollahian, stressing the need for an immediate and comprehensive embargo on Israel by Islamic nations. This would encompass oil-related sanctions. Additionally, Amirabdollahian called for the expulsion of Israeli ambassadors in cases where diplomatic relations have been established between OIC member countries and Israel.

Amirabdollahian also proposed the creation of a team of Islamic lawyers tasked with documenting potential war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza. It’s worth noting that Iran maintains no diplomatic relations with Israel.

Preceding the tragic incident at the Gaza hospital, health authorities in Gaza reported a death toll of at least 3,000 people as a result of Israel’s 11-day military bombardment. This offensive was launched following a Hamas attack on southern Israeli communities in early October, during which 1,300 people were killed, and around 200 were taken hostage by Hamas and brought into Gaza.
