Mohammed Akther Parvez Chowdhury, the managing director of PHP Stocks and Securities Ltd, has been elected as a director of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
Akther Parvez secured the highest number of votes, with 83, in the election held on Thursday for two director positions. Major (Retd.) Emdadul Islam, the Director of BK Capital Management Ltd, received 50 votes, securing the other newly elected director position.
Six candidates contested in the election, with voting taking place from 10 am to 3 pm in the CSE’s hall room on Thursday. AKM Mohsenuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, the Chairman of the Election Management Committee, announced the results at 4 pm.
Among the other four candidates, Md Siddiqur Rahman received 46 votes, Mohammad Mohiuddin (FCA) garnered 17 votes, Md Osman Goni secured 13 votes, and Nur Mohammad obtained 11 votes.
Born in 1983 in Chattogram, Akther Parvez is the youngest son of Ekushey Padak winner Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, the chairman of the renowned industrial group PHP Family. After completing his education abroad, he returned to join the family business.
Akther Parvez, who is also a director of various organizations and chairman of the cricket committee of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Sports Club, attended the CSE’s 28th annual general meeting after the election ceremony. The meeting, presided over by CSE Chairman Asif Ibrahim, was attended by other CSE directors and management.
During the annual general meeting, shareholders approved a 5% cash dividend for the fiscal year 2022-2023.
