Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), the national carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is set to launch direct flights on the Chattogram-Jeddah route starting from March next year. Initially, the airline plans to operate three weekly flights, gradually increasing the frequency. The flights will be serviced by Boeing 777 and Boeing 747 aircraft.
Wing Commander Taslim Ahmed of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport confirmed that Saudia airline flights are anticipated to commence operations at the airport in March. A Saudi Arabian team has already visited Chattogram airport, and pending successful arrangements, the flights are scheduled to begin in March.
Once operational, Saudia’s flights in Chattogram are expected to significantly enhance travel options for passengers in the region heading to Saudi Arabia. Moinuddin Hasan, proprietor of the Chattogram-based travel agency MH Hajj Group, emphasized the potential growth in flight operations from Chattogram to the Middle East, given the existing passenger demand on this route.
Mohammad Shah Alam, Chairperson of Hajj Agencies Association Bangladesh (Haab) Chattogram Region, noted that the introduction of Saudia flights from Chattogram would offer passengers in the region a luxurious travel option for the hajj pilgrimage.
Saudia already operates flights to and from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Currently, other airlines like Flydubai, Air Arabia, Oman Air, Jazeera Airways, SalamAir, and SpiceJet operate international flights to and from Chattogram airport.
