In support of facilitating bankers and other employees in exercising their voting rights in the upcoming 12th national parliament election, banks across Bangladesh will remain closed on January 7. The Bangladesh Bank issued a circular confirming this decision. The government had previously declared January 7 as a general holiday for the election to ensure that voters face no hindrance in casting their votes.

Responding to a letter from the Election Commission, the Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification, officially declaring the holiday. The notification specifies that the holiday encompasses officials and employees of government, semi-government, autonomous, and private offices, as well as teachers, officers, and employees of all public and private educational institutions. This move aims to enable these individuals to actively participate in the democratic process on the designated day.

For government employees, this decision results in a three-day holiday, as January 5 and 6 are already scheduled as weekend holidays, and January 7, falling on a Sunday, has been declared a general holiday. This strategic approach ensures a conducive environment for citizens to fulfill their civic duty by casting their votes in the national parliament election.
