Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said on Wednesday, 5 October, that no rice can be sold in the market under the name of Miniket.
“No rice can be sold in the name of Miniket. While packaging rice in a sack, the rice variety should be written on the sack. Strict action will be taken if anyone fails to do so,” he said.
He said this while talking to reporters after visiting Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur this morning.
The cabinet secretary visited BRRI in a bid to observe the initiatives to deliver improved varieties of rice discovered by agricultural scientists to the field level quickly.
He also joined a coordination and promotion campaign with agricultural scientists, experts of Department of Agricultural Extension and Department of livestock and fisheries.
He said that if the rice varieties invented by the researchers reaches farmers quickly through coordination with different departments, the production will almost double in the next 5-6 years.
