On February 6, Tuesday, Canberra expressed a keen interest in establishing direct air connectivity between Bangladesh and Australia, considering the sizable Bangladeshi community of over eighty thousand residing in Australia. The interest was conveyed during a meeting between the acting High Commissioner of Australia to Bangladesh, Nardia Simpson, and Muhammad Faruk Khan, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, at the secretariat.
In response to Australia’s interest, Minister Khan stated that he would carefully consider the possibility of establishing direct air connectivity between the two countries. He highlighted the considerable potential for collaboration in the aviation sector, emphasizing the already strong bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Australia.
Minister Khan further assured the Australian envoy of full support and assistance for Australian businesses looking to invest in Bangladesh’s tourism and aviation sectors. The discussions underscored the mutual interest in fostering closer ties and exploring opportunities for cooperation in aviation and tourism.
