BGMEA

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is currently conducting its biennial election to select the new executive committee for the term 2024-26.

Voting commenced at 10:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm at the BGMEA’s offices in Dhaka and Chattogram. A total of 2,051 voters in the Dhaka zone and 512 voters in the Chattogram zone will participate in electing 35 directors for the upcoming board.

Two competing panels, namely Sammilito Parishad and Forum, are actively participating in the elections. SM Mannan leads the Sammilito Parishad panel, while Faisal Samad is heading the Forum panel.

The competition involves 70 candidates vying for the 35 director positions, with 26 directors to be selected from Dhaka and nine from Chattogram.

To oversee the electoral process, the BGMEA board of directors formed a three-member election board, headed by Jahangir Alamin, the former president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA). Additionally, a three-member election appellate board was established, led by Kamran T Rahman, President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

Voters in the Dhaka region will cast their ballots at booths set up in the BGMEA Uttara office, while those in the Chattogram region will vote at the trade body’s regional office in the port city. The election signifies a crucial event in the BGMEA’s organizational structure, determining the leadership for the next two years.
