Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (8 April) urged Brazil to directly import Ready-Made Garment (RMG) products from Bangladesh.

She emphasized that while RMG goods from Bangladesh have been exported to Brazil on a limited scale through a third party, it would be more cost-effective for Brazil to import RMG items directly from Bangladesh. The premier made these remarks during a courtesy call by a delegation from Brazil, led by its Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, at her office earlier today.

After the meeting, PM’s Speech Writer M Nazrul Islam briefed the media. Sheikh Hasina highlighted the importance of ensuring trade balance between Bangladesh and Brazil, noting that the current trade balance significantly favors Brazil. She suggested that Brazil could import more products, including jute goods and leather items, from Bangladesh to address this imbalance.

The prime minister pointed out that Bangladesh primarily imports sugar, soybean oil, and cotton from Brazil, and stressed the vast potential for increasing bilateral trade between the two countries.

Furthermore, Sheikh Hasina underscored the importance of enhancing the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Brazil.
