Anyone attempting to shut down factories with the aim of destabilizing the government and harming the economy will be remembered, warned Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today (September 14). Speaking at a views exchange meeting on the ongoing crisis in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector and possible solutions, held at the BGMEA Building, Adilur emphasized that the government would introduce special measures to address the unrest in RMG factories.
Although he did not elaborate on the nature of these measures, the adviser confirmed that a decision had been made to keep all factories open tomorrow.
During the meeting, garment factory owners declared that if unrest forces any factories to shut down, they would invoke section 13/1 of the labour law. This section permits employers to close down an establishment or its sections, either wholly or partly, in response to an illegal strike.
The meeting was presided over by BGMEA President Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, with other key attendees including Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and Fisheries Adviser Farida Akhtar.
