Army Officers Given Executive Magistrate Powers for 60 Days

In a move to strengthen law and order, the government has granted executive magistrate powers to commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army. The decision was formalized in a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration yesterday.

For the next 60 days, eligible army officers will operate as executive magistrates under the direction of district magistrates across the country. This temporary authority will allow them to take charge of various legal matters within their jurisdiction.

The army magistrates will be responsible for handling offences outlined in specific sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 (CRPC), including Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142.
