BTMA desperately seeks constant gas supply

BTMA

Bangladesh Textile Millers Association today, 22 October demanded uninterrupted gas supply to keep production running.

More than half of the nation’s 1,700 textile mills, which are members of the BTMA, are in a vulnerable situation now because of the severe gas crisis since March this year.

At a press conference, BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon stated that they are even ready to pay a bit higher than the current price of gas if the government can ensure uninterrupted supply to the industrial units.

$16 billion investment made in the country’s primary textile sector is also in a vulnerable situation for the lack of adequate gas supply to the textile mills, Khokon said.

The BTMA president made the statements while replying to the queries of journalists at a press conference organized by the association at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in Dhaka.
