A Supreme Court lawyer today September 11, 2022, served a legal notice on the government, asking it to halt exporting Hilsa fish to India within a week.

Md Mahmudul Hasan sent the legal notice to the authorities concerned of the government, saying that the commerce ministry has given permission to export Hilsa without considering its demand to the people of Bangladesh.

In the legal notice, he said the poor people of the country cannot afford to buy Hilsa due to its high cost.

The lawyer, in the legal notice, said the price of Hilsa has increased in the markets of Bangladesh due to the export of this type of fish to India.

Mahmudul Hasan further said Hilsa fish is not an exportable product under the Export Policy 2021-2024.

But the commerce ministry has approved the export of Hilsa to India ignoring the interest of the people of Bangladesh and in violation of law, he added.

Mahmudul Hasan said he will take appropriate legal action if the government does not stop the export of Hilsa to India within a week.
