Kamal Mojumder: SMEs Require Tk 5000cr to Challenge Market Monopoly

SME

State Minister for the Ministry of Industries, Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, has expressed concerns over the dominance of large companies in the market, which has resulted in small and medium entrepreneurs being marginalized.

He highlighted the unfair competition caused by monopoly and syndication of essential goods, leading to substantial profits for these established companies. To address this issue and promote fair competition, the state minister proposed the allocation of a Tk5000 crore fund in the upcoming budget.

The fund would provide subsidies to support small and medium entrepreneurs. During a workshop titled ‘Role of media in the development of SME sector in the post-Covid-19 situation,’ organized jointly by the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) and SME Foundation, Kamal Mojumder emphasized that state-owned industries, such as the sugar industry, could help prevent significant price hikes if they remained operational.

The workshop also featured presentations on the activities and future plans of SME Foundation, emphasizing its role in fostering small and medium entrepreneurship.
