During a visit to the ongoing construction of the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar rail line, Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan announced on Tuesday (16 May) that the highly anticipated Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar train will begin operating by September this year.
The minister highlighted that the government is currently focusing on two key railway projects, namely the Padma Bridge rail link project and the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar new rail line construction project.
Addressing concerns about the Kalurghat Bridge’s potential challenges, Minister Sujan assured the public that an expert team is dedicatedly working on the bridge’s renovation. He emphasized that necessary renovations based on the team’s recommendations are being carried out, ensuring a smooth train operation without any obstacles.
The Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway construction project, financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), involves the development of a new 101 km dual gauge single line connecting Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar via Ramu. Once completed, the railway will be seamlessly integrated into the Trans-Asian Railway Corridor, enhancing connectivity and travel options in the region.
