According to the AQI scale, a reading between 151 and 200 falls under the ‘unhealthy’ category, indicating the presence of pollutants that can have adverse effects on human health. Furthermore, an AQI score of 201-300 is considered ‘very unhealthy’, while 301-400 is labeled ‘hazardous’, signifying significant health risks.
In the international ranking, Dubai from the United Arab Emirates, Tel Aviv from Israel, and Hanoi from Vietnam secured second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. These cities reported AQI scores of 156, 154, and 153, underscoring the global scale of the air pollution crisis.
The AQI serves as an important index for assessing daily air quality, providing vital information to the public regarding the cleanliness or pollution levels in a specific city. It also highlights the potential health risks associated with the observed air quality. With Dhaka’s persistent struggle against hazardous air pollution, urgent actions are warranted to mitigate this alarming issue and safeguard the well-being of its residents.
