The Japanese government has pledged approximately $4 million in the form of a grant for Bangladesh’s Fourth Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP4).
The Exchange of Notes regarding the Japanese Grant aid was signed by Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminorio and Economic Relations Division Secretary Sharifa Khan, as stated in a press release issued by the Japanese Embassy on Tuesday (20 June).
Furthermore, a relevant Grant Agreement was signed between Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, Ichiguchi Tomohide, and Sharifa Khan based on the bilateral agreement. During the occasion, the Japanese ambassador emphasized the significance of improving the quality of education in Bangladesh to achieve its goal of becoming a developed country by 2041, alongside economic growth. He reiterated the essential role played by PEDP4 in facilitating Bangladesh’s inclusive growth and sustainable development through the enhancement of human resources.
The ambassador affirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting education at all levels within the country. With this recent grant, Japan’s total contribution to PEDP4 has reached two billion Japanese Yen (approximately $15 million), aimed at providing financial support for various initiatives to successfully implement the program.
