The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh recently joined forces with the Partners of the Food and Nutrition Security Programme for Bangladesh to host a significant event titled “The European Union and the Government of Bangladesh in Partnership for Good Nutrition through Good Governance.”
The event, held in Dhaka, brought together government and non-governmental organizations to discuss the crucial role of effective governance in promoting good nutrition. The morning session featured Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, the Agriculture Minister, who highlighted the Ministry of Agriculture’s commitment to developing a self-sufficient and sustainable agricultural system through increased productivity, modernization of marketing, and adoption of new technologies.
In the afternoon session, M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, the Principal Secretary of PMO, emphasized the necessity for strong political will and explicit commitments from leaders to combat malnutrition, stressing the importance of sustainable and resilient food systems. Throughout the event, EU delegates underscored the significance of food and nutrition security in Bangladesh and urged continued support and investments in interventions by various stakeholders, including government, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, UN agencies, and civil society. Panel sessions covered topics such as the production and consumption of nutritious food, leveraging social protection and education interventions for better nutrition outcomes, and integrating nutrition into planning, budgeting, and implementation processes.
The event further solidified the ongoing collaboration between the EU and the Government of Bangladesh in addressing food and nutrition security challenges.
