Denmark has shown a keen interest in investing $1.3 billion in Bangladesh’s offshore wind energy production, according to Denmark Ambassador Winnie Estrup Petersen.
During a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s office in Dhaka, the ambassador conveyed Denmark’s willingness to make this significant investment. Prime Minister Hasina’s Press Secretary, Ihsanul Karim, quoted the ambassador as expressing Denmark’s eagerness to support Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector.
Following the meeting, Karim stated that the prime minister seeks assistance from friendly countries like Denmark to facilitate Bangladesh’s development. Prime Minister Hasina highlighted the country’s 100 special economic zones that require both domestic and foreign investments. The prime minister and the Danish envoy also acknowledged the 50-year development partnership between the two countries and praised the leadership of Prime Minister Hasina in driving socioeconomic progress in Bangladesh.
The ambassador commended the government’s efforts in poverty reduction and women’s development, while Prime Minister Hasina emphasized the country’s strides in democracy and the growth of the ICT sector. The ambassador suggested exploring collaboration in various areas, including human development, as both nations have achieved substantial progress through cooperation.
The ambassador presented books to the prime minister as a gesture commemorating the 50-year development partnership.
