Sweden has entered into a renewed agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to extend support for the Local Government Initiative on Climate Change (LoGIC) project for the period 2023-2025.
The agreement was officially sealed by Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alex Berg von Linde, and UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative, Stefan Liller, at the Sweden Embassy in Dhaka. LoGIC has been instrumental in delivering climate adaptation resources and capabilities to the most vulnerable communities in Bangladesh, particularly those affected by climate change.
The project has focused on bolstering climate resilience through local leadership, innovative approaches, and nature-based solutions, with thousands of vulnerable households and women establishing savings groups and enterprises to mitigate climate-induced disasters and improve their well-being.
Over the next two years, the project will expand its operations to the Chittagong Hill Tracts while continuing its work in the seven most climate-vulnerable districts. Furthermore, it aims to integrate the LoGIC model into the national planning, budgeting, and allocation system of the government, ensuring that local governments and communities have access to adaptation financing.
Swedish Ambassador Alex Berg von Linde expressed pride in contributing to the development of the LoGIC model, which aids climate-vulnerable communities, particularly women, in addressing climate change challenges and improving their lives. Stefan Liller, UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative, emphasized the project’s role in incorporating climate change considerations into local planning and financing, ultimately supporting effective adaptation measures.
