Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has characterized the talks between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as exceptionally cordial and warm, reflecting the deep-rooted bilateral relations between their nations.
Momen emphasized Biden’s clear intention to foster a strong relationship with Bangladesh during a press briefing. Prime Minister Hasina attended the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, where she engaged in discussions with various world leaders, including Narendra Modi, Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Alberto Angel Fernandez, Yoon Suk Yeol, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Momen highlighted the evidence of Bangladesh’s robust ties with Washington through the amicable interactions between Biden, Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed, and the Prime Minister’s Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin during the G-20 Summit sidelines. President Biden expressed his admiration for Hasina’s leadership and her efforts to improve the lives of Bangladeshis. He accepted an invitation from Hasina to visit Bangladesh. Additionally, Biden expressed interest in Saima Wazed’s work in autism and invited her to the USA.
The foreign minister mentioned that Biden had cordial conversations with Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Modi, where Hasina commended Biden for his speech at the G20 Summit. While discussing other global leaders, Momen emphasized the pride that the people of Bangladesh should feel regarding Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.
Regarding political matters, Momen clarified that there were no political discussions during the meetings between the prime ministers of Bangladesh and India, although both leaders acknowledged the upcoming elections in their respective countries next year.
