Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to upholding democracy during a meeting with a 12-member delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI) and National Democratic Institute (NDI) pre-election assessment mission (PEAM) based in the United States.
The prime minister emphasized her party’s dedication to democracy and provided insights into Bangladesh’s democratic history. She recounted her return to the country in defiance of death threats during the 2007-2008 military-backed caretaker government and reiterated her government’s focus on ensuring the basic rights of citizens, including food, clothing, shelter, health, and education, in line with the vision of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The delegation acknowledged Bangladesh’s impressive economic development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership and expressed their mission’s aim of promoting a peaceful transition of power.
