Obaidul Quader, the General Secretary of the Awami League (AL) and the Minister of Road, Transport, and Bridges, extended his warmest congratulations to Saima Wazed for her nomination as the new regional director for South East Asia (SEARO) by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Saima Wazed, renowned for her global advocacy on mental health, with a particular focus on autism, holds the distinction of being the granddaughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Her appointment to this prestigious role is a “milestone achievement” as she becomes the first Bangladeshi to assume this position. Obaidul Quader expressed confidence that Saima Wazed’s dedication and significant contributions to public health, coupled with her visionary leadership, will greatly enhance and invigorate WHO’s activities within the SEARO region.
