In a Christmas Day address at her official Ganabhaban residence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed strong condemnation for acts of violence, particularly those intending to disrupt the upcoming general election scheduled for January 7.
She emphasized that no one would be allowed to benefit from such violent actions, stating firmly, “No one will be allowed to get benefit by burning people to death and foiling the election in the soil of Bangla.”
During the gathering with the Christian community, the Prime Minister criticized those responsible for ordering and executing heinous attacks, pointing to an incident where a passenger train was set on fire by the BNP-Jamaat clique, resulting in the tragic death of a mother and her child.
She questioned the motives behind such violent actions, expressing her dismay and highlighting the senselessness of burning people alive and causing damage to public property. Sheikh Hasina stressed that this form of violence is unacceptable and goes against the principles of all religions, noting, “Burning people to death alive is a great sin and injustice. This injustice cannot be tolerated anymore. No religion can accept this.”
The Prime Minister reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to being a secular state where people of all faiths can practice their religious rituals freely. She emphasized the country’s tradition of religious harmony, citing it as an example on the global stage. Sheikh Hasina extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community, both in Bangladesh and worldwide.
