The deployment of the army is set to commence today in 62 districts to ensure a peaceful environment for the upcoming 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections scheduled for January 7. According to an official release from the Defence Ministry, this deployment will continue until January 10.
The release outlines that armed forces personnel will collaborate with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in 47 bordering upazilas. Additionally, the BGB members, stationed in 45 upazilas, will be joined by the Coast Guards in four coastal upazilas. The Bangladesh Navy is assigned duties in a total of 19 upazilas, including the coastal districts of Bhola and Barguna.
To support the electoral process, the Bangladesh Air Force is prepared to provide necessary helicopter assistance to polling stations in remote hilly areas and offer electoral aid in case of emergencies.
To manage coordination and communication, special cells, jointly established by representatives of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, will be operational throughout the country until January 10, 2024.
