The Japanese government has dispatched an election observer mission to Bangladesh to oversee the pre and post-poll situations leading up to January 9, with the aim of ensuring a fair implementation of the general election scheduled for January 7.
Led by Mr. WATANABE Masato, former Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh, the mission comprises officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, and an external expert. The team, in addition to observing the voting and counting processes, will engage in information exchange with the Bangladesh Election Commission and other international observer missions.
This deployment of an election observer mission aligns with Japan’s commitment to supporting the consolidation of democracy in Bangladesh, responding to the Bangladesh Election Commission’s invitation for international observers.
