Dhaka, the densely populated capital of Bangladesh, has once again secured the top position on the global list of cities with the worst air quality. At 9:12 am this morning, the city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 278. The air quality was categorized as ‘very unhealthy,’ according to the city ranking for air quality and pollution.
An AQI ranging from 151 to 200 is considered ‘unhealthy,’ while 201-300 is labeled as ‘very unhealthy,’ and 301-400 is deemed ‘hazardous,’ posing severe health risks to residents. Following Dhaka, Shanghai in China, and Kolkata and Delhi in India, claimed the second, third, and fourth positions on the list, with AQI scores of 199, 198, and 189, respectively.
