The United States has affirmed its commitment to enhancing its alliance with Bangladesh, as Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel outlined specific measures during a regular briefing at the US Department of State in Washington on January 22.
Patel emphasized that there are ongoing and future steps aimed at deepening the partnership between the two nations. Responding to a journalist’s inquiry about the specific actions planned by the US, Patel highlighted collaboration on climate issues and security as focal points, areas where the US perceives ample opportunities for cooperation. He further stressed the importance of engaging with non-governmental actors, emphasizing their role in fortifying the bilateral relationship.
The commitment to bolster ties between the United States and Bangladesh was evident in a meeting between US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas and Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud following the formation of the new government.
Discussions revolved around collaborative efforts on issues of mutual significance, including climate change, business opportunities, and the Rohingya crisis. Ambassador Haas expressed anticipation for close cooperation in the upcoming months, aiming to advance relations based on shared interests.
