Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader emphasized that there is no room for generosity towards a new influx of Rohingyas into Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. Speaking at a press briefing in Banani, Quader stated that Bangladesh will not allow Rohingyas to enter again, highlighting that while the country previously opened its borders generously, such generosity is not feasible at present.
He mentioned ongoing talks with China and India and noted that the Myanmar ambassador assured the return of those who fled to Bangladesh due to the conflict. Quader emphasized the need to address the burden of hosting Rohingyas and highlighted the decreased flow of international aid to the community. Regarding BNP leaders’ recent statements, he stated that BNP is disappointed due to its movement failure and election absence, leading them to oppose the government under the banner of opposition.
Earlier, a delegation led by the World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan, Abdoulaye Seck, met with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader to discuss the progress of various projects. Quader highlighted the government’s implementation of a road safety project, involving around Tk 5,000 crore, aiming to reduce road accidents and minimize damages by June 30, 2028.
