US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, in a recent press briefing, has called upon elected officials in Bangladesh to uphold the nation’s laws and financial regulations concerning corruption. This call for compliance follows a reference to a Bloomberg report alleging the involvement of Bangladeshi government officials in corrupt practices.
The journalist specifically highlighted former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, whose alleged overseas assets are reported to amount to £200 million. Responding to inquiries about US actions in addressing this issue and supporting global anti-corruption initiatives, Miller stated, “We are aware of these reports and encourage the Government of Bangladesh to ensure that all elected officials comply with the country’s laws and financial regulations.”
