Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphatically restated Bangladesh’s commitment to avoiding conflict but emphasized the need to strengthen its defense capabilities for safeguarding independence and sovereignty.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee commemoration of the Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974, enacted by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she highlighted the government’s alignment with Bangabandhu’s vision through the Forces Goal 2030. PM Hasina affirmed the country’s determination to take necessary measures for self-reliance. The Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974, was praised as a crucial guideline, expected to remain integral for the nation’s future. The significant maritime areas acquired were underscored as contributors to Bangladesh’s economic prosperity.
In the program chaired by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), Shipping Secretary Md. Mostafa Kamal and Naval Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan also addressed key points. Rear Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam presented a keynote paper, accompanied by an audio-visual documentary. PM Hasina explored different stalls within the program premises post-event.
