Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced today that her government is set to provide a special stimulus package to support medical research, urging physicians to prioritize research in the healthcare sector. The announcement was made during the distribution of “Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship,” “National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship,” and special research donations among teachers, scientists, researchers, and students from various universities. The function was organized by the Science and Technology Ministry at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sheikh Hasina emphasized the need for increased research in medical science and encouraged physicians to focus on research rather than relying solely on private practices for income. Expressing concern about the lack of emphasis on medical science research, she urged physicians to reduce private practices and contribute more to research, stating that research is essential for proper medical treatments and maintaining public health.
The prime minister underscored the government’s commitment to supporting research and highlighted the role of research in achieving self-reliance in areas such as food production. Sheikh Hasina also discussed plans for the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Ruppur, reinforcing the government’s dedication to advancing science and technology initiatives.
Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology Ministry Zahed Maleque, and Science and Technology Secretary Md. Ali Hossain also addressed the event.
