Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sternly rebuked the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies, accusing them of advocating for the restoration of the caretaker government system not out of genuine concern for fair elections, but rather to plunge the nation back into darkness.
Addressing a gathering at the Dhaka District unit office in Tejgaon to commemorate the 104th birth anniversary of Bangladesh’s founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Hasina reaffirmed her commitment to upholding his vision for a prosperous and just nation.
She emphasized that Bangladesh, under the leadership of Bangabandhu, was destined for progress and empowerment of its citizens, and she pledged to continue working towards realizing this vision.
Questioning the motives behind BNP’s persistent demand for reinstating the caretaker government system for overseeing elections, Prime Minister Hasina pointed out the irony of their stance. She reminded them of their poor performance in the 2008 election, despite the presence of a caretaker government at the time.
Highlighting the achievements of her government, Prime Minister Hasina asserted that under the rule of the Awami League, the needs of the marginalized, including food and shelter, were being met. She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to basic necessities, including housing and land.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Hasina condemned BNP’s apparent disdain for the welfare of the common people, suggesting that their opposition to government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the less privileged reflected their true intentions.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Hasina reiterated her determination to continue pursuing policies aligned with Bangabandhu’s ideals, while cautioning against attempts to derail the nation’s progress towards prosperity and social justice.
