The government has announced a six-day restriction on the movement of trucks, covered vans, and lorries on highways surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr to facilitate smooth travel for holidaymakers.
The decision, made during a meeting chaired by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, aims to ensure safe and uninterrupted journeys for homebound travelers. Exceptions will be made for vehicles transporting essential items such as food, perishable goods, RMG products, medicines, fertilizers, and fuel. Additionally, road maintenance work must be completed seven days before Eid.
Minister Quader emphasized the importance of enhancing the capacity of highway police and BRTA for effective implementation. He urged petrol pump owners to operate 24/7 five days before and after Eid to meet travelers’ needs. Quader also warned against extortion and unauthorized fare collection during the holidays and instructed the regulation of three-wheelers’ movement on highways, prioritizing public safety over commercial interests.
