Bangladesh Film Archive, under the Information Ministry, and Getty Images, a visual media company from the United States, have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at collecting and preserving footage related to the Liberation War and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The signing took place at the Getty Images office in New York on Friday, as stated in a media release issued by the ministry on Monday.
Representing their respective sides, Dr. Md Mofakkharul Iqbal, the director of the project on “Collection and Preservation of Audiovisual Documents of the Liberation War from Local and Foreign Sources and Capacity Building of Bangladesh Film Archive,” and Arran Birchenough, Asia Pacific Director (TV and Sales) of Getty Images, signed the MoU.
Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Information Humayun Kabir Khandaker, along with officials from the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York, were in attendance during the signing ceremony.
Following Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s declaration of independence in the early hours of March 26, 1971, the news spread across various global media outlets.
Throughout the nine-month duration of the Liberation War, numerous international media sources disseminated a wide array of images and news related to the conflict.
Through this MoU, Getty Images will extend its support to the Bangladesh Film Archive in the collection and preservation of these invaluable documents, as outlined in the release.
