Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called for a specialized approach in addressing teen gangs during an impromptu discussion at a cabinet meeting chaired by her in the city.
Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain, briefing reporters at Bangladesh Secretariat, stated that the directive was to tackle teenage gangs differently from traditional criminal handling methods. The Prime Minister specifically directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare to take action in this regard. She emphasized the importance of handling teenage criminals with care and providing opportunities for their correction and engagement in various activities.
Furthermore, she instructed authorities not to detain such teenagers with regular prisoners in jails. The Ministry of Social Welfare was tasked with initiating projects to address this issue, including expanding the number of juvenile development centers and enhancing their facilities to facilitate the correction of teenage criminals.
