Educational Institutions in Bangladesh to Remain Closed Until April 27 Due to Heatwave

Heatwave

In response to the prevailing heatwave, all schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical education institutions throughout Bangladesh will remain closed until April 27 (Saturday).

A notice issued by M Abul Khair, the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, confirmed this decision today (April 20).

This announcement precedes the scheduled reopening of educational institutions in the country, which was originally set for tomorrow (April 21) following Eid holidays.

Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel stated that the decision to extend the closure of educational institutions was taken in consultation with the Ministry of Health and in light of forecasts from the Meteorological Department regarding the ongoing heatwave.

He emphasized that further revisions to this decision may occur in collaboration with relevant stakeholders should circumstances change.

Earlier today, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued similar directives in separate press releases.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education specified that this closure applies to all government primary schools, child welfare trust schools, and non-formal education bureau learning centers until April 27.

Similarly, the DSHE’s press release mandated the closure of all public and private educational institutions under its jurisdiction for the same duration.
