The government has deployed 229 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to maintain law and order across the country in response to today’s “complete shutdown” organized by quota reform protesters.
The Public Relations Office (PRO) of BGB revealed this deployment in a press release issued this morning, stating, “229 platoons of BGB have been deployed in Dhaka and other districts centering on the complete shutdown program.”
The shutdown was announced by quota reform protesters yesterday, following violent attacks on them by law enforcement agencies.
The nationwide “complete shutdown” will affect all public and private institutions, excluding hospitals, media outlets, and emergency services. Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of the quota reform movement, emphasized the scope of the shutdown in a statement.
“Railways will be under complete shutdown. No vehicles except ambulances, media vehicles, and those engaged in emergency services will be allowed on the road,” Asif wrote in a Facebook post.
