Nobel Laureate Yunus: Time for Youth to Govern Bangladesh

Yunus

In the aftermath of Sheikh Hasina’s sudden departure from Bangladesh yesterday, Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus shared his thoughts with The Print, describing the current movement as Bangladesh’s “second liberation movement.”

He extended his congratulations to “all the young people who spearheaded this entire movement, elevating it to its current stature, ultimately uniting everyone and liberating the entire nation.”

Yunus emphasized the need for a “fresh start, envisioning a beautiful future for ourselves… with students and young people at the helm, leading our future, which is what I’m eagerly anticipating.”

He expressed his intention to return to Bangladesh “very soon,” asserting that “young people should lead the way, they should govern the country, not the older generation with their outdated ideas and methods… we will have the young generation take over and shape the nation as they desire. It is their country, they have made significant sacrifices, and they have every right to do so.”
