On Sunday, August 11, a violent altercation occurred at the headquarters of Islami Bank, where gunfire was exchanged after more than a hundred outsiders, allegedly associated with S. Alam Group, attempted to force their way into the bank. The confrontation took place around 10:15 AM in front of Islami Bank Tower, where bank officials had gathered.

According to multiple officials from Islami Bank, the staff had initiated a protest against the issuance of unsecured loans and other irregularities linked to a recent loan scandal. During the demonstration, several individuals reportedly working for S. Alam Group, accompanied by nearly a hundred armed men, tried to enter the building.

When the outsiders were blocked from entering, they allegedly drew firearms and began shooting indiscriminately at the bank officials. Three officials were struck by bullets, while five others were injured, with three in critical condition. The attackers fled the scene after the bank staff retaliated.

The injured include Shafiullah Sardar, the bank’s warehouse guard, along with officers Mamun, Abdur Rahman, and Baki Billah, among others.

This incident follows the resignation of Muhammad Qaisar Ali, Islami Bank’s Additional Managing Director, who stepped down on Thursday, submitting a handwritten resignation letter to the Managing Director in the presence of bank officials.
