Metro Rail Service to Resume Tomorrow After Employee Strike Ends

Metro Rail Dhaka Metro

Dhaka’s metro rail service is set to resume operations tomorrow, 24 August, following a brief suspension due to an employee strike at the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL). The workers returned to their duties last Tuesday, 20 August, after reaching an agreement with the DMTCL board.

Despite the service resumption, the metro will not stop at Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations, according to DMTCL Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf, as reported by the news media.

Since Tuesday, test runs of the metro rail have been conducted to ensure there are no operational issues. Upon restarting, the metro rail will operate with an eight-minute interval during peak hours, a ten-minute interval during special off-peak hours, and a twelve-minute interval during regular off-peak hours.

The metro rail will continue to be non-operational on Fridays, as was the previous practice.

The return of employees in grades 10 to 20 came after the DMTCL board approved their request for a salary increase. Additionally, the board established a committee to address their concerns regarding the payment of outstanding arrears.
