Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus stated today that Bangladesh is like a large family where the government is responsible for protecting the rights of every citizen.

He made these remarks while exchanging greetings with leaders of Bangladesh’s Hindu community on the occasion of Janmashtami, the auspicious celebration of Lord Sri Krishna’s birth.

During the meeting, Prof. Yunus expressed his vision of a Bangladesh where everyone can practice their faith without fear, and where temples do not require guarding.

“Our responsibility is to uphold the rights of every citizen. It is our duty to ensure justice for all,” he told a group of Hindu leaders at the State Guest House Jamuna in the capital.

“There should be no divisions among the people in our country. We are all equal citizens. The interim government is committed to protecting the rights of every individual,” Prof. Yunus added.

The Hindu leaders, in turn, greeted the Chief Adviser on this auspicious occasion and shared that they have prayed for the harmony and prosperity of the nation and the interim government, according to the Chief Adviser’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, who spoke to BSS after the meeting.

They also mentioned that Janmashtami celebrations were suspended in flood-affected areas, where food and relief have been sent instead.

The Hindu leaders commended the Chief Adviser for his recent remarks at the Dhakeswari Temple in Old Dhaka, noting that his words would contribute to building a non-communal society and fostering religious harmony.

They also raised concerns about the illegal grabbing of Hindu properties, including temple lands.

Present at the meeting were Kajal Debnath and Monindra Kumar Nath of the Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad, Charu Charan Brahmachari of ISKCON, Basudeb Dhar and Santosh Sharma of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, and Priti Chakraborty of Universal Medical College and Hospital.
