Two separate murder cases have been filed against former minister Obaidul Quader, former Narayanganj city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, and former Member of Parliament Shamim Osman at Siddhirganj Thana, Narayanganj, on Tuesday.
The first case, filed on Tuesday evening, accuses 130 individuals of involvement in the murder of Minarul Islam, a garment worker, who was killed during anti-discrimination protests on July 20 near the Adamjee Route-Amin Power House area. Nazmul Haque, the victim’s brother, lodged the case, naming Obaidul Quader, Selina Hayat Ivy, Shamim Osman, his son Aoyon Osman, niece Azmeri Osman, Zila Parishad Chairman Anwar Hossain, expelled BNP leader Ataur Rahman Mukul, former textiles minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Kaiser Hasanat, councilor Enayet Hossain, among others, as accused. According to the case details, Minarul Islam was allegedly shot by Shamim Osman around 6:30 PM on July 20. He was taken to Narayanganj 300-bed hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Earlier on Tuesday noon, another case was filed by a woman named Aklima Akhter at Siddhirganj Thana, accusing several prominent figures of the murder of her husband, Syed Mostafa Kamal, during the student-led uprising. The accused in this case include Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Shamim Osman, and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, among others.
The cases have raised significant attention due to the involvement of several high-profile political figures.
