3 Newly Elected Mayors Sworn In

In a ceremonial event held at Shapla Hall, the newly elected mayors of three city corporations—Abul Khair Abdullah of Barishal, Talukder Abdul Khaleque of Khulna, and Jayeda Khatun of Gazipur—took their oath of office this morning.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath to the mayors, while Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam oversaw the swearing-in of 177 newly elected councillors from general wards and female councillors of reserved seats in the same venue. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Local Government Division Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim. State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharjee also graced the occasion.

Abul Khair Abdullah, running as the Awami League candidate, emerged victorious in the Barishal City Corporation election held on June 12, securing 87,807 votes. His closest competitor, Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, received 33,828 votes.

Talukder Abdul Khaleque, representing the Awami League, won the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election on June 12 with an impressive 154,825 votes. His nearest rival, Md Abdul Awal of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, obtained 60,064 votes.

On May 25, independent candidate Jayeda Khatun emerged triumphant in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls with an overwhelming 238,934 votes, defeating the Awami League-nominated candidate Azmat Ullah Khan, who received 222,737 votes.
