The second 660 MW unit of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project, a joint venture between Bangladesh and India’s Friendship Power Company (BIFPCL), achieved a successful test synchronization with the National Grid on June 28, 2023.
This milestone, completed within a remarkable 28 days from Boiler Light-up, sets a new industry standard for similar ultra-supercritical units. The achievement was made possible through the coordinated efforts of BIFPCL, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Fichtner, and the support of India’s National Thermal Power Company (NTPC)’s Project Management Group.
All associated systems, including FGD, were brought into service, marking significant progress toward the project’s completion. The addition of the balance 660 MW capacity to the grid is expected in the coming months. The Maitree Super Thermal Power Project symbolizes the strong bond and friendship between India and Bangladesh. The advanced technology deployed in the project will provide cheaper, more efficient, and reliable power to the Bangladesh Grid. T
he Maitree STPP’s power will be distributed nationwide through the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). Commercial production of the Rampal Power Plant unit-2 is anticipated by September 2023.
