Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, is set to participate in a retreat hosted by the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday, July 16. The retreat aims to facilitate discussions among BIMSTEC member countries on regional matters and chart the future course of action for the 25-year-old organization.

During the event, Dr. Momen, along with other foreign ministers from BIMSTEC member countries, is expected to meet with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand. These bilateral interactions will provide an opportunity for the leaders to discuss various issues of mutual interest on the sidelines of the retreat.

Later this year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh is scheduled to attend the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. The sixth edition of the summit, to be held in November 2023, will mark Bangladesh’s assumption of the chairmanship of the regional grouping, further emphasizing the country’s commitment to regional cooperation and development.

Following his participation in the retreat and other engagements, the Foreign Minister is slated to return to Bangladesh on July 18. An official from the news media confirmed this schedule. Prior to his visit to Bangkok, Dr. Momen visited Jakarta, Indonesia, where he attended the ASEAN Regional Forum.
