Abdul Quddus, a dedicated freedom fighter and Awami League representative for Natore-4 constituency, has passed away at the age of 77 in a city hospital.
He breathed his last in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) at approximately 7:30 am, according to family sources. Quddus had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday due to breathing difficulties. As his condition deteriorated, medical professionals moved him to the ICU.
Abdul Quddus leaves behind his wife, a son, a daughter, and a wide circle of relatives, friends, and supporters. The first prayer service (namaz-e-janaza) will take place at the Jatiya Sangsad premises, followed by subsequent services at the Natore Awami League office and his residence in Natore, as shared by his fellow party members.
Born on October 31, 1946, in Bilsa Village of Gurudaspur union, Abdul Quddus embarked on his political journey by becoming part of the historic six-point movement in 1966 under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During 1968-1972, he held the position of Chhatra League president in the greater Rajshahi region.
An active participant in the mass uprising of 1969 and the significant liberation war of 1971, Quddus was a fervent freedom fighter. In addition to his roles in the liberation movement, he served as the president of the Natore district unit of Awami League.
Having been elected as a Member of Parliament for the Natore-4 constituency on five occasions, Quddus remained dedicated to his constituents and the party throughout his political career.
