Bangladesh Nationalist Party, BNP is a big hindrance to the country’s security, democracy, law and order, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has mentioned.

“Bangladesh’s democracy and the legal system won’t be safe in the hands of BNP,” Quader told the news media on the sidelines of a prayer ceremony in memory of Sheikh Russell at Banani graveyard on Tuesday morning, 17 October.

“History will not forgive nor forget those who were involved in the murder of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on August 15, 1975. The killing is unforgivable,” he said.

On his part, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas said that “the day the trial of Sheikh Russell’s killers is over, Russell’s soul will rest in peace”.

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced today that the government will show ‘zero tolerance’ towards corruption, ensuring no corrupt individuals are spared.

Speaking at the inauguration of a BRTC shuttle bus service at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Quader emphasized the independence of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), stating that the ACC operates freely and without government interference.

He acknowledged the prevalence of corruption globally and within Bangladesh, noting, “We aren’t claiming there is no corruption here. It’s not accurate to say only government officials are corrupt and politicians aren’t.”

Quader also admitted to corruption within his own sector, saying, “When we speak about corruption, we must consider everyone; we should first look at our own reflection in the mirror.”

The new shuttle bus service aims to ease travel for tourists, expatriates, and general passengers. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruque Khan, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullha Nuri, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Chairman Md Tazul Islam attended the event.
