Mild Heat Wave Likely to Ease in Next 24 Hours: Met Office

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted that the mild heat wave currently affecting parts of the country, including the capital, is expected to subside in most areas within the next 24 hours, starting from 9 am today.

“A mild heat wave is sweeping across the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet, as well as the districts of Jashore, Chuadanga, and Kushtia. It is likely to ease in most regions,” the department reported.

In addition, BMD predicted light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, across most of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Some areas are expected to experience moderate to very heavy rainfall.

Temperatures across the country may drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius during both day and night.

On Monday, Dinajpur in the Rangpur division recorded the country’s highest temperature at 38.6°C, while Bandarban in the Chattogram division saw the lowest temperature at 24.6°C early today.

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours, ending at 6 am today, reached 66 mm in Nikli of Dhaka Division.

The sunset in Dhaka is at 5:53 pm today, and sunrise is expected at 5:49 am tomorrow.

Ex-Ministers Accused in Murders Linked to Anti-Discrimination Protests

Two separate murder cases were filed today in connection with the deaths of a private service holder and a Madrasa student during the anti-discrimination student movement.

The first case was lodged by Ridwan Ahmed with Panchlaish police station, accusing former ministers Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, and 127 others for the death of his nephew Sujan, 14. Sujan, the son of Belal Hossain from Beramara village in Noakhali’s Sadar Thana, was a student at Al Jamirul Hayat Madrasa in the city’s Chandgaon area. He was fatally shot in the Muradpur area on July 18.

The second case was filed by Jamal Uddin at Doublemooring police station, accusing 225 individuals, including Dr. Hasan Mahmud and Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, for the killing of his elder brother Alam, a private service holder, on August 5.

China Ready to Dispatch More Medical Teams to Aid Bangladesh

China has announced that its visiting medical team will help assess injuries in Bangladesh and provide emergency humanitarian medical assistance. Based on the needs, China is prepared to send additional medical teams and necessary medical supplies to treat patients on-site.

This marks the first emergency medical team from China to Bangladesh since the formation of the interim government, underscoring the strong bilateral relations between the two nations, said Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen. The team arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on September 22 at the invitation of the interim government.

Ambassador Yao, along with Sheikh Sayidul Haque, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, welcomed the team. Yao expressed condolences to the victims of the recent uprising in Bangladesh and conveyed China’s deep empathy for the Bangladeshi people during these hardships.

Dong Qian, Head of the Chinese National Emergency Medical Team, highlighted that this humanitarian mission was made possible through the collaboration of various Chinese agencies and the support of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh. The team includes experts from West China Hospital, specializing in areas like trauma care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, and critical care.

Bangladesh’s Additional Director General Sheikh Sayidul Haque expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for their swift assistance, noting that China has consistently supported Bangladesh in times of crisis, including during the COVID-19 pandemic and dengue outbreaks. Bangladesh will provide full cooperation to the Chinese team to ensure the recovery of the injured as quickly as possible.

China Sends Medical Experts to Aid Bangladesh Uprising Injuries

A Chinese National Emergency Medical Team is set to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday to provide specialized medical care to those severely injured during the anti-fascist uprising that took place in July and August.

The Chinese embassy in Dhaka confirmed that the team is being dispatched following a request from the interim government’s Chief Adviser, Prof. Muhammad Yunus.

The team consists of 10 medical experts from West China Hospital, a top-tier medical institution in China. They are scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on flight MU2035 from Kunming at 1:35 pm, as confirmed by an embassy official on Saturday.

A formal statement outlining the team’s planned activities will be released on Sunday, according to the embassy official.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, along with senior health ministry officials, will be at the airport to welcome the medical team.
